TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Effective date: 16 January 2026

1. About us

These Terms and Conditions (the “Terms”) govern your use of buildingitbetterni.com (the “Site”) and any course booking made through the Site.

The Site is owned and operated by Sarah McKiernan trading as Building It Better NI (“we”, “us”, “our”).

If you need to contact us:

2. Use of the Site

By using this Site, you confirm that you have read and understood these Terms and agree to be bound by them.

You agree to use the Site lawfully and not to:

  • harass or mistreat other users;

  • breach others’ rights (including intellectual property);

  • act fraudulently; or

  • upload or post material that is offensive or unlawful.

We may suspend or terminate access to the Site if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms.

3. Intellectual property

All content on the Site (including text, images, branding, logos, documents and downloadable files) is owned by Sarah McKiernan and/or the Site’s creators, unless otherwise stated. You may not reproduce or reuse Site content without written permission.

4. User contributions

Users may post public comments where this functionality is available. By posting, you confirm your content is lawful and does not breach these Terms.

5. Our services (courses)

We provide DIY courses for women.

5.1 Mobile workshop and venue confirmation

We operate as a mobile workshop. One downside of this is that we do not always have a single fixed venue confirmed for every date far in advance.

For many events, we only confirm and book the venue once we have the minimum number of bookings required for the course to run (typically 5 bookings, unless otherwise stated). Because some dates are scheduled well ahead, on rare occasions the venue location may need to change depending on demand in an area and availability.

Once the venue is confirmed, we will notify all customers booked onto that course with the venue details and any relevant joining information.

5.2 What is included (course content)

Each course listing describes the type of skills covered and typical tasks/projects. Some sessions may include different practical projects depending on materials and availability; however, the core skills and safe tool use being taught remain consistent (for example, whether building a toolbox or a planter, the key techniques and tools are still covered).

Course length varies (for example, some courses run over 2 days and others over 4 days). The content covered will reflect the duration and course type.

5.3 Accuracy of information

These Terms apply to all services displayed on our Site at the time you place an order. We take care to ensure that all information, descriptions, and images of our services are accurate and kept up to date. From time to time, minor updates or corrections may be made to course information (for example, clarifying descriptions or updating materials/tools). Any material changes that affect your booking will be communicated to you as soon as reasonably possible.

6. Prices and booking

Prices are shown on the Site and may change from time to time. The price that applies to your booking is the price shown at checkout at the time you place your order.

Discount codes (where offered) are subject to their stated terms, expiry dates and usage limits.

7. Payments

7.1 Payment methods

We accept payment on our Site by:

  • Debit card

  • Credit card

7.2 Deposit or full payment required at booking

When you book a course, you must pay either:

  • the required deposit, or

  • the full course price,

as displayed at checkout for that course/date.

A booking is only confirmed once the deposit or full payment has been successfully received.

7.3 Balance payments (where a deposit is used)

If you choose to pay a deposit, the remaining balance of the course fee must be paid no later than 14 days before the course start date, unless a different deadline is stated at checkout or agreed with you in writing.

If the balance is not paid by the due date, we may contact you to request payment and/or to confirm whether you still wish to attend. If payment is not received within a reasonable time after we contact you, we reserve the right to cancel your booking and offer the place to another customer. Any refund (if applicable) will be considered in accordance with Section 9 (Customer cancellations and refunds) and any applicable consumer law.

8. Our right to change or cancel a course

We may need to make changes to a course (for example, venue changes, timetable adjustments, or in rare cases cancellation). If a change is significant, we will notify you as soon as reasonably possible.

If we cancel a course, you will receive a full refund of all payments made for that course, unless an alternative is agreed with you (for example, transferring to another date).

9. Customer cancellations and refunds

This section sets out our cancellation and refund policy, in addition to your legal rights.

9.1 Our 14-day cancellation policy (from purchase date)

You may request to cancel your booking within 14 days of the date of purchase (“our cancellation period”).

If your cancellation request is received within this 14-day period, we will refund payments made.

9.2 Refund requests after the 14-day period

After the 14-day period has ended, refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis.

As a community-based workshop provider, we aim to be fair and reasonable and will always take genuine circumstances into account. Where appropriate, we may offer a refund or the option to transfer your booking to a later course date (subject to availability). Our priority is to treat customers properly and maintain the trust and community spirit that our business is built on.

9.3 If we cancel or make a change that does not work for you

If we cancel a course, you will receive a full refund as set out in section 8.

If we make a significant change and you reasonably cannot attend as a result, we will offer a suitable alternative (where available) or a refund.

9.4 Statutory cancellation rights (UK customers)

UK consumer law may provide cancellation rights for some distance/online contracts; however, this statutory right does not apply to certain services, including leisure services booked for a specific date or period. Where statutory cancellation rights do not apply, refunds are handled under the policy terms in this section and any other applicable legal rights.

9.5 How refunds are made

Refunds (where due) are normally made back to the original payment method. Please allow a reasonable time for processing.

10. Consumer rights

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes your statutory rights under applicable consumer protection laws. If we provide a service that is not carried out with reasonable care and skill, you may have legal remedies.

11. Third-party links

Our Site may include links to third-party websites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or policies. You should review their terms and privacy notices before using them.

12. Limitation of liability

We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under law.

Subject to the above, we are not liable for losses that are not reasonably foreseeable, or for indirect or consequential losses.

13. Complaints and dispute resolution

If you have a complaint, please contact us first and we will try to resolve it promptly and fairly.

If we cannot resolve a dispute directly, we may be able to refer you to an appropriate Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider. We will inform you of a suitable ADR option and confirm whether we are willing to use ADR in that instance.

Nothing in these Terms prevents you from bringing a claim through the courts.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Northern Ireland (UK), and the courts of Northern Ireland will have jurisdiction, subject to any consumer rights you may have to bring proceedings elsewhere.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the law or how we operate. Updated Terms will be posted on the Site with an updated effective date.
