I have just spent the last 2 days on the DIY course with tutor Michelle. From the very start she put me at ease. She was reassuring, patient and explained everything at a pace that was easy to follow. The group of ladies were great craic. Overall it was a very enjoyable and informative weekend. Looking forward to my next course.

If you are not sure whether to book this course - go for it, you will not regret it. I was really looking forward to it and it was better than i could have expected. I got to use so many different tools. Sarah is a wealth of knowledge and so passionate about everyone leaving with the confidence to give it all a try. You can ask her anything! Only problem i have left with is knowing which project to start with first 😀 cant wait to get practicing my new found skills

I’ve recently completed the electrics course with Sarah and the DIY course with Michelle. Both were brilliant and have given me so much confidence to just get stuck in. I attended the diy course for women in Derry and it was better than I expected. I learned so much from the beginning, from understanding the tools and bits, to cutting and building a small stud wall. Once you understand what the power tool is for and how to use it, it's not so scary anymore. Michelle is a fantastic tutor with loads of helpful tips and she shares lots of information in a WhatsApp group, where we can ask her anything. She is eager to see what with do with our new skills and this is a great inspiration. This is something I've wanted to do for years and I'm so glad I did

Absolutely brilliant. Never used a drill in my life. Today I was fitting shelves building walls using nail guns masonry and combo drills and I can’t wait to get stuck in at home. Thanks Sara. You’re one in a million and a 1st class coach.

Id never been on a weekend workshop so didn't really know what to expect. But it was a great experience and I would definitely want to book another. It was such a learning experience and gave me confidence in using power tools. Not only that but using them to fix and make things. Wirh excellent instruction we went on to make a stud wall, put up shelves and a wooden toolbox. Highly recommended

Where do I even start! I learnt so much about so many tools, accessories and techniques but more than anything I was given the space and time to develop my confidence. The women in my group were supportive and fun, Sarah the instructor kept the program moving at a lovely pace, she knowledge was second to none, no question or mistake was anything other than a chance to learn. We entered on Saturday as hesitant strangers and left on Sunday confidently discussing what tools and changes we would confidently make to our and loved one's homes. Thank you so much for hosting this excellent course.

I highly recommend this course, the tutor Sarah is amazing, so knowledgeable and patient, she encouraged everyone and no question went unanswered, no matter how many were asked. I went into this course a complete novice, who hung pictures with command strips, and now feel confident enough to create a room out of an old garden shed 💪🏼

I have done a number of courses with Building it Better NI and I cannot compliment Sarah and Michelle enough. My confidence to tackle basic home improvements has increased significantly. I have gone from never having held a power tool to now having a very strong foundation in using my own set. Their expertise and advise continues long after the course ends. I have told everyone I know to do at least the DIY course. I love telling people that I have built a toolbox and a lamp which honestly is immense improvement in just a weekend. Thank you very much Sarah and Michelle!

I completed the two day electrics course with building it better Ni. I had the best time! It was a fabulous two days. So informative and I learned so much. The class was great and we all had fun whilst learning. I will defo be back to do another course. Thanks girls!

I attended the Basic Electrics course and really enjoyed it. Sarah was brilliant—she took the time to explain everything clearly and answered every question without making anyone feel rushed. She also made the course fun and engaging, which made it much easier to learn. I'd definitely recommend it and hope more courses are brought to Coleraine in the future.

I recently completed Sarah’s women-only DIY course, and it was honestly one of the best investments I’ve made in myself. Over the two days, I learned so much - from understanding the different types of drills and how to use them confidently, to building a stud wall, hanging shelves, and even making my own toolbox. The course was hands-on, practical, a real laugh and incredibly empowering. Sarah is an exceptional teacher. She is patient, knowledgeable, and explains everything in a way that makes you feel comfortable asking questions and trying new things. She created such a supportive and welcoming environment, encouraging everyone in the group to work together, help each other, and celebrate our successes. What I appreciated most was how much confidence Sarah gave me. Before the course, many of these DIY tasks felt intimidating, but I now genuinely feel capable of tackling projects around my own home. A brilliant weekend of learning, having a go and meeting great people. Sara is an EXCELLENT teacher. Incredibly patient, genuinely curious and so encouraging, I feel like I can tackle any job! (except electrical...just yet!) I will be recommending this course to everyone.

Cannot recommend enough! Best way to spend a weekend and learn skills in a nonjudgmental environment. A course that would benefit EVERYONE! 10/10 I will be seeking more classes as it was fun and inspiring.

This course is amazing, so empowering. You learn to use several power tools, build a studd wall and all you need to put up a shelf anywhere in your house But you learn so much more. How to use different types of screws and fixing etc. The person teaching you makes it easy, they talk about the tools and techniques, they show you if you are a visual learner, and then you will use all the tool yourself! You learn so many things, you will come home needing another weekend to recover Book it, you won't regret it

Stevie was an amazing tutor! He explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and backed up by demonstrations and participation. Everyone was encouraged to ask questions and no one was treated like a fool for any question. I feel much more empowered to tackle these jobs that I kept putting off and feel more confident walking into a plumbing merchants and knowing what to ask for. My head is bursting from taking it all in! I can't wait to try the other courses on offer and would highly recommend this one.

Sarah takes the mystery out of DIY and use of tools in a practical and fun way. Her class is taught in a friendly, relaxed manner inspiring everyone to work together and support each other. This makes learning fun,educational and helps build confidence to take on projects at home.

Sarah is a fabulous trainer. She's knowledgeable welcoming and inspires. Sarah is passionate about what she does and evokes that into others. I have truly had the most wonderful weekend with a wonderful group of ladies. I have come away much more confident to do DIY, with the support from Sarah and the other ladies in the group. I thoroughly recommend this to anyone thats thinking i wish I could just do those odd jobs around the house. The small group is the perfect size to interact with everyone a learn whilst having fun. I done the 2 day DIY course with Sara and it was absolutely fantastic! Within the first few minutes she made everyone feel at ease and it was unreal craic from start to finish! As a group of women we got stuck into building a stud wall and making our own toolboxes to take home. Everyone left the class proud as punch with what we had achieved. Sara was so patient and explained everything in a way that made it easy to follow, even for those who’d never lifted a tool before. I came away with more confidence and new skills that I’ll be able to put into practice. I one million percent recommend it to anyone wanting to up their DIY game and also to other organisations looking to get Building It Better NI in to deliver a course as Sara really went above and beyond!! Completed DIY class, was absolutely brilliant class to take. Would really recommend. It was all so well organised and fun to do. Learned alot will be booking onto other classes.

What am incredible weekend led by the fabulous Sarah. Myself and 10-odd intrepid DIY'ers arrived on Saturday with - to be honest - no idea what was to come (Top Tip.... read the emails! 😂). By the end of the two days every one of us had used and understood how to use the following: A Combi Drill An Impact Driver A Circular Saw A Jigsaw A Chop Saw We learned how to identify, select and match the right drill bits, screws with the right materials. We built a stud wall , we hung shelves. We learned about different wall fixings and what to use where. We build something to bring home (a tool box), we built confidence, and we built friendships. We laughed, we learned and we helped each other. I can't recommend this course highly enough, and have signed up for the Electrics course in July. Thank you again Sarah!

Both Ellen and Michelle were friendly and welcoming. Ellen showed us around the basics of car maintenance and did it effortlessly. She made it fun, interesting and I have a newfound confidence in the areas she taught us. I came away from the training wanting to attend more courses and bring more friends! Thank you!

Tutor: Michelle (9th & 10th May) From the moment we walked into the room, Michelle made us feel completely at ease. She is a fabulous tutor who took the time to explain every detail thoroughly; she never made us feel rushed, even when the room was full of questions. She moved professionally around the space, ensuring everyone received the individual help they needed. What I Gained The content covered was fantastic. I walked away with: Newfound Confidence: I feel empowered using a variety of power tools. Practical Skills: I learned how to construct a stud wall from scratch. Home Maintenance: I now know how to properly hang curtain rails, floating shelves, and various other household items. The Experience Michelle went above and beyond by setting up a WhatsApp group for us, posting photos and details of all the tools we used so we could reference them later. She was incredibly interactive, and we all loved her quirky stories—they added such a fun, personal touch to the weekend. The camaraderie between all the women was fantastic. It was a supportive, high-energy environment that made learning easy and enjoyable. Final Thoughts My only negative comment is that it felt too short! I enjoyed every second of it and truly wish the course had lasted longer. I can’t recommend this workshop enough for anyone looking to master DIY skills in a brilliant atmosphere. Well done Michelle!

Learnt so much on this weekend course and gained the confidence I needed to get started at home.

I took this class with Michelle and as a complete beginner I found this amazing and confidence-building. I hope to take more courses and I’d be thrilled if there were ever also workshops for other more advanced projects like flooring, skirting, frames, plastering, and fencing/gates (though I feel like with the information I learned it will definitely open the gates up for these projects due to more confidence in tools, measurements, levelling, etc. but I want to learn it all!)

Superb Weekend Took the head staggers and booked onto the 2 day weekend course recently as I was frustrated that I didn’t have the confidence to hang a picture frame 😬. My little sister is a DIY whizz and I felt so incompetent with my own inability. This has to be the absolute best 2 days I have spent in a long time. Sarah was fantastic - cool, calm and collected…she had us all believing we could do it, and we did. I wouldn’t have believed that by the end of Day 1 we would build a stud wall & that on Day 2 we would put up shelves and make our very own tool box to take home. Drills, drill bits, screw types, saws (hand held & the proper cool ones), steel rules, measuring properly (!) etc. So many top tips & tricks learnt in 2 days such was Sarah’s generosity with her knowledge. This course should be mandatory for females of all ages, as so many things around our homes can be easily fixed by ourselves. Planning to do the Plumbing course next. Brilliant Sarah - such a super business idea to train the ladies. Thanks a million 😊

I had such a great experience on this DIY course. It was led by women, for women, and that made such a difference to the overall atmosphere. It felt really welcoming and completely non-intimidating, which isn’t always the case when learning practical skills like this. Everything was explained in a very clear, hands-on way. Instead of just being shown what to do, we were actually guided through it step by step, which made it feel achievable and built confidence quickly. No question felt silly, and there was a real focus on making sure everyone understood what they were doing and why. I came away not only with projects I’m really proud of, but with a much stronger sense that I can tackle DIY myself going forward. It’s such a valuable skill set, and this course made it feel accessible rather than overwhelming. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn practical DIY skills in a supportive and empowering environment.

I did the course in Warrenpoint last weekend learnt so much in a great spacious location. Sarah was excellent organised fun and a superb passionate teacher. Even though it was a larger group she ensured we all covered the essential skills. I don't know how she did that with a constant smile on her face. The after course support was second to none and given freely with excellent speedy kind patient response. I would highly recommend the course. The group of women made the day too. A Stud wall a & shelf hung & a tool box made. Equipped with knowledge of power tools & confidence I have commenced a number if jobs that were waiting to be done! I've just completed the DIY 2-day course for women. It was absolutely brilliant. I did not imagine I would be building walls or using so many power tools. Our tutor, Sarah was amazing. She was knowledgeable, patient and explained things simply and clearly. Can't thank her enough. Also made some lovely friends too. So move over guys, the girls are in town!

Had a wonderful 2 days in Carrick at the DIY course taught by Michelle and very ably assisted by Rhyian. I met a great bunch of people and we all learned loads. I am now equipped with my own drill etc etc and can’t wait to get started on all the projects I’ve been dying to do but not had the faintest idea where to begin. Those days are now a distant memory! I had a fantastic weekend learning new skills. Michelle was brilliant not only is she extremely knowledgeable, she took her time with everyone and was constantly reminding us "there is no such thing as a daft question ". I recently attended a DIY course with Sarah and it was honestly one of the best workshops I’ve ever done. Sarah patiently showed us how to use drills and power tools safely and confidently, which made a huge difference for anyone who had been nervous about using them before. We learned how to mark, measure and saw accurately, and also covered really useful practical skills like hanging shelving, wall panelling, and even building a stud wall. One of the most helpful parts was learning about different types of wall fixings and when to use them, which is something that always felt confusing before. Making our own toolbox was a brilliant part of the course too — it was so satisfying to build something practical ourselves and take it home. Sarah is a fantastic tutor — knowledgeable, patient and incredibly encouraging. She explains everything clearly and makes sure everyone feels confident before moving on. No question was ever too small, and she genuinely wants everyone to succeed. I came away feeling so much more confident tackling DIY projects at home. Attended Building it better NI course at kilcroghan, Magherafelt, with Sarah as the tutor, an amazing patient instructor and with skillful knowledge, learnt so much over 4 weeks for a few hours, wish it was longer, highly recommend it, if in your area, sign up , youll meet amazing people.

I took the beginner DIY course and I enjoyed every bit of the course. It have never handled a power tool before and going to this course has given me that confidence. Also this course has enabled me to think in a way to do things differently than just getting someone to do it for me. Michelle was wonderful in answering every question we had.

Just finished 4 fabulous friday mornings at Kilcronaghan center with Sarah, learning the skills to enable me to hang shelves, build stud walls, safely use hand saws, jigsaws, circular saws and to choose the right tools, screws and fittings. Sarah was simply the best.. teaching, guiding, encouraging and giving us all the confidence to get on with it and skills to take home with us (as well as our newly made tool boxes). It was brilliant and so much fun in the process and I couldnt recommend it more highly, just a fantastic course to be part of.

Absolutely fantastic course, the teachers were very knowledgeable and very encouraging. I came to the course without any real experience of DIY and I can now confidently use power tools and identify their parts, hang shelves and curtain poles, make items out of wood and even build a stud wall! Brilliant 2 day course on beginners DIY skills for women ,run by women.The teachers are very skilled and knowledgeable and great at passing on tips and made the class fun as we all built a stud wall ,hung a shelf and made our own tool boxes to take home , using various power tools .2 day weekend course just flew by and I was very impressed at the amount of skills we were taught.I now feel confident to use some of these tools and look forward to starting my projects around the house . I would highly recommend this course .

Since my dad passed away last year, I've been lost without his building skills and his lifetime of knowledge. So when I saw this course I thought it would be perfect and give me the confidence to start doing a bit of DIY around the house, even help family and some friends out. A lot is packed in over the 2 days, but you never feel overwhelmed. Sarah is a great teacher and is so calm and passionate about what she does. No question was a bad question! Went on a 2 day, weekend DIY course in Bangor with Michelle as tutor. Well planned, covered a lot of ground and somehow managed to let us work at our own pace. Everything was well organised from the joining instructions through to tools, materials, tasks, tea & bickies. I knew a reasonable amount before I went and came away with lot of new ideas, things I never knew and things I'd never thought of tackling. It was fun too. 🙂

Excellent, cannot recommend this course highly enough! Everything explained really well, lots of opportunities to practice and ask questions. I didn't feel any question was too daft to ask. Michelle was amazing. Brilliant to be with a group of women, really gave me confidence. Everyone was very friendly and we all helped eachother. Totally worth it. Will be looking to do some more courses.

Fantastic course. I have just completed the extended DIY course with Michelle. Michelle was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and put me at my ease. I have come away from the course with so many practical skills - drilling, cutting and measuring, building a stud wall, plasterboarding, repairing walls, shelving, hanging curtain poles and most importantly confidence. I CAN DO THIS!!! I can use power tools. I am currently writing a list of all the jobs I want to complete in the house and I feel confident I can complete them and I know which tools I need. Just completed the two day DIY basics course in Bangor and loved it. Michelle was an excellent tutor, she explained everything really well, has the patience of a saint and is pretty fearless when beginners are in front of her with a nail gun! 🤣 Thanks to her, I now have the confidence to tackle several jobs in the home, saving myself a LOT of money. I would recommend and enrol in any of the courses, if they are all as well taught as this.

Just completed the two extended DIY course with Sarah and I can honestly say it was the BEST two days. Sarah is a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Sarah is an amazing teacher with a calm and relaxed attitude. She was so encouraging to everyone and made us all believe in ourselves. The tools and equipment Sarah had available for us to use were top quality. We learned so many valuable things in the two days and have gone away with knowledge and skills which we can hopefully put into practice in our own homes. My wife and I have just completed a 2 day course with Sarah and it was excellent. 10am - 3pm both days and it flew in! Lots of information but explained really well and all hands on. We have learned loads had a blast and are off to build our own bar on our garage!! ….not joking! That’s the amount of confidence we have gained from this. Thoroughly recommend 💪

Attended the Antrim class & thoroughly enjoyed it. It has given me the confidence now to tackle the diy jobs about the house rather than sitting looking at them or paying someone else to do it. Highly recommend.

Being a widow and not long moved into a new build I really needed this DIY course. I can now put up all my paintings, curtain poles, cabinets, kids shelves, pictures etc and I’ll be making planters as presents like the tool boxes we made and will come in so useful with my shop if I need anything fixed or put up. Great group of people, had a laugh and learn’t lots of new skills which will empower me to DIY safely and properly. Highly recommend and Michelle was great, answering all our questions and very helpful, friendly and welcoming.

Just finished my second day with Sarah at Building it Better N.I. Brilliant! A comprehensive, step by step training with an enthusiastic, knowledgeable instructor. An extremely friendly atmosphere, of support, guidance and a lot of laughter. Plenty of tips and tricks to remove the belief that DIY is something I can't do. Great support, advice and encouragement, 100 % value for money. Suitable for anyone who would like to be self sufficient, but is too afraid to ask. I attended a two day DIY course where we learnt how to use various power tools, build a stud wall, hang shelves, poles and use plasterboard. We even made toolboxes to take away. Michelle was brilliant and very knowledgeable. It was a very hands on course and worthwhile for anyone looking to better their skills

Thoroughly enjoyed the two day DIY course with Michelle. I learnt so much and will definitely be tackling some projects soon. I even bought a new drill and impact driver!! I would really recommend Building it Better. Michelle is very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining and demonstrating the power tools. Will definitely look out for another one of these courses.

I have just completed the 2 day course in Derry with Sara and honestly I think it is the best course I’ve ever taken. Sara is so phenomenal! She instils such confidence in participants and is a natural teacher. I now feel fully confident to use power tools and complete diy jobs at home. We got the answers to why we do something, what tools we do it with and how to do it! Do this course if you get the chance. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

Just completed a one-day DIY course with the brilliant Building It Better team at the Ballynahinch Workshop. The instructors were incredible — skilled, encouraging, and seriously inspiring women. We packed so much into the day and even built our own toolboxes to take home! I loved every minute of it and left feeling much more confident about tackling DIY projects on my own. I can’t recommend this course highly enough — I’ll definitely be signing up for more.

What an absolutely fabulous workshop!! I would recommend it to every single woman so she can learn the basic skills and not have to wait forever, pay a fortune or be conned by scrupulous workmen for small jobs!!! In such a short time, we learned all about the manual and power tools we would be using, how to use them safely and with the proper techniques. We learned how to hang a floating shelf, attach plasterboard to a frame and the best bit... make a complete toolbox from scratch!!! We used a whole range of tools from a combi drill to a circular saw!!!! I can't believe I did it!! But Sarah was an excellent tutor, very precise in her training, very attentive and a great personality that she got on with everyone. I can't wait until the next workshop and I know everyone else in the class feel the same. A brilliant, fantastic and very rewarding day where you will come home feeling empowered! Xx
